Great video on Water and Proper Hydration. A must watch for CrossFitters.

Your sweat is 99% water, your blood is 90% water, and your muscle mass is 75% water. When you loose this precious fluid, body functions become adversely affected including muscle function. Blood volume drops and the heart has to work harder to pump oxygen and nutrients to the muscles. Gastrointestinal distress becomes a risk due to delayed stomach emptying. Your body has difficulty cooling itself and core temperature rises.
Knowing how much fluid you need to take in is very valuable for athletic performance. This video will help you know how much water you need to be consuming.
This video gives me the chills!

I love this video becuase it reminds me that even though I may not be favored to win, whether it be in a CrossFit WOD, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu match, or any other competition, I can still kick some but and maybe even cause an upset. If you’re like me and you always feel like the underdog, remember that “the other guy may be favored to win, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make it REAL hard for them to do so!”
More Noggin for your Noggin
Added On: 07.14.10
Scientists for years have been exploring the mind-body connection, especially when it comes to exercise and it’s impact on your brain, and the ultimate question, can exercise really make you smarter?
Well in studying this, they have discovered a brain protein called, believe it or not, “Noggin.” When you exercise, more Noggin shows up… and the impact within your brain is significant. More Noggin means more brain stem cell activity… and when they’re more active, more responsive, they are actually dividing and differentiating into additional stem cells or baby neurons. In the brains of mice and rats, this led to their ability to breeze through mazes and other tests of rodent I.Q.

TGIF!

One of the things that makes us different is the way we constantly compare ourselves to others who do CrossFit. We have leaderboards. We keep score. We post results of workouts up on whiteboards. We do this to create context for training, so that we all have a framework within which our training can exist… goals, expectations of performance, belief of what is possible, etc. Comparisons are good – as long as they are NOT used to make you feel bad about what you are doing… remember, the competition, 99% of the time, is just with yourself!
The Power of Positive Self-Talk

The Power of Positive Self-Talk
If there is one consistent character trait I have observed
in CrossFit athletes from around the world, it is a strong
sense of optimism. The difficulty of the CrossFit workout
naturally instills not only physical fitness but also
mental fitness. Regardless of the time to completion or
the amount of weight used, simply facing the daunting
workout of the day (WOD) puts the other obstacles of life
into proper perspective: they are all a lot easier. CrossFit
coaches and athletes who understand that optimism
and a positive mental attitude can yield tremendous
results in the gym have one thing in common: success.
The athletes are performing at the top of their game, and
the coaches are surrounded by thriving clients.
CrossFit Women Rock!
Added On: 07.07.10
It is my experience that it takes a unique kind of woman to pursue and stick with CrossFit. It has nothing to do with the physical skills or athletic aptitude she may or may not have, but rather, it has to do with her tenacity and her desire for learning and growth. The women here at Walnut CrossFit get what it means to invest in themselves for the long-haul, both physically and mentally. It doesn’t mean they don’t have ups and downs, it doesn’t mean that they don’t still struggle with fitting fitness into work, relationships and family, but they keep working and keep learning. I find it a daily inspiration.I would love for all the women of Walnut CrossFit to get to know each other better and share in this inspiration. Wouldn’t you like to hear stories about other women here who have taken the mental and physical practice of CrossFit and translated it into success outside of the gym, as well?
