Yesterday was amazing. We had so many individuals hit new PRs(personal records) on Cindy. I am especially excited because we had a number of females who did it prescribed. Woot woot! You guys are amazing!

How solid are your commitments? Do you keep them no matter what? And what if you miss a commitment… was it really a commitment to begin with, or just an intention? Have you thought about the difference?
Intention – to have in mind as something to be done or brought about
commitment – an obligation, promise, etc that restricts one’s freedom of action; a pledge or promise; obligation
Do you see what’s missing from intention that makes it different from a commitment? As long as it’s still in your mind, as with intention, there’s no skin in the game; still a chance to change course, alter plans, not show up, change your mind. A commitment? Check the definition – it necessarily contains a restriction in one’s freedom of action – when you’re committed to something it means something else can NOT happen. Period. End of story.
Think about things coming up in your schedule this week – are you committed? Meetings, phone calls, your workout, a flight across country, foods in your diet. Which ones are actually commitments and which are merely intentions? It will be easy to tell at week’s end… the commitments actually happened… the intentions might have, but then again, might not. Think about this and it’s impact – which events do others in your life think are your commitments when you know they are just intentions? Share in comments.

“Pleasure was the ego seeking instant gratification. Pleasure was the second piece of chocolate cake. Happiness, on the other hand, was walking down the lane 2 pounds lighter and feeling more energy because of the new program of exercise and healthy food. That was happiness. Pleasure was the extra cake being chewed up in the mouth. That was pleasure. Happiness was often the feeling of being lighter and more in control of your life force…Pleasure did not last. And pleasure was worse than that. Not only did pleasure not last, it did something even more upsetting. It turned itself around. It turned itself inside out…Because what was happening now? I am only an hour past the eating of the cake, and I am feeling a little sick! A little bloated! Where’s the pleasure? It was the best devil’s food cake ever! Why can’t I still enjoy it? What kind of cruel joke does pleasure play on me?”

How long have you been a member at WCF? 4 months
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness? CrossFit has increased my overall level of fitness by introducing Olympic lifting, gymnastics and running elements into my workout regiment at a high level of endurance. Since my wife Marisela and I joined WCF, we talk about CrossFit, nutrition and how we can improve just about every day.
What is your athletic background? I competed in Track & Field and Soccer as a youth and then played Varsity Basketball and Baseball during High School. In college I joined the Judo team and competed in a few tournaments.
Favorite WOD: Any combination of weight lifting, gymnastic movements and leg squats.
Favorite Lift: Dead Lift
Least Favorite WOD: Any containing the 800m run
Least Favorite Lift: Shoulder Press
What are your proudest CrossFit achievements? Learning how to do a muscle up and rope climbs and then successfully completing them in a WOD.
Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit? I would like to reach a high level of CrossFit to be able to compete in a local competition.
Any advice for someone thinking about trying CrossFit or someone who has just started? It doesn’t hurt to try but you will be sore. Once you get involved with CrossFit you will feel more athletic than just working out at your local “globo gym”. You’ll find that there is much more to improve on as you progress and everyone at Walnut CrossFit from the members to the staff and coaches are there to support you.
Favorite place to eat? Brunch at Coco Palms
Favorite cheat meal? Big Carl with a Hand Scooped Vanilla Shake mmmmmm…..

This video is long. It’s 18 minutes. But, it’s 18 minutes of coaching you can use from one of the best coaches there ever was — Coach Wooden.
What he says is so applicable to CrossFit and it’s so applicable to life. Take the time to watch. You’ll learn some poetry, hear some good stories, and think on the meaning of the word success, as defined by a man who put a lifetime of thought into the development of human potential.
